• Building permits, September 2001

  The value of building permits issued by municipalities declined for a second consecutive month in September, as construction intentions in the commercial sector hit their lowest level in almost four years. Builders took out $3.2 billion worth of permits, down 1.2% from August.

• Family income, 1999

  For the second consecutive year, average family income reached a new high in 1999, as the income of Canadians continued to rebound from the recession of the early 1990s. Average after-tax family income reached an estimated $51,473, up 1.9% from 1998.
