Dairy statistics

July 2002 (preliminary)

Dairy farmers sold 7.5 million kilolitres of milk and cream to dairies in the 2001/02 dairy year, virtually unchanged from 2000/01. Of this total, 2.8 million kilolitres were used for fluid milk and cream production, and 4.7 million kilolitres were used to manufacture butter, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, milk powders and concentrates. A dairy year runs from August to July.
