Includes eligible school-aged children (aged 5 to 17 years as of December 31, 2020) not living on reserve or in Nunavik because the schools located there are not under the jurisdiction of a minority official language school authority, with very few exceptions.

Includes children who were attending or had attended in the past, for at least one year, an English-language school in Canada, for residents of Quebec; or a regular French-language school program in Canada, for residents of other provinces and territories.

The distance between eligible children and the nearest official language minority school is the distance, as the crow flies, between the centre of the block where the eligible child lives and the exact coordinates of the nearest official language minority school located in his province or territory of residence located in his province or territory of residence.

Urban children are the eligible children whose place of residence is in population centres, while rural children live outside population centres.
