Data Liberation Initiative
The Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) is a partnership between post-secondary institutions and Statistics Canada with the goal of improving access to data resources.
This user-centric program builds statistical capacity and leadership through microdata access training and support for an ever-expanding research data collection including: Public Use Microdata Files (PUMFs), Postal code files, Social Policy Simulation Database and Model (SPSD/M), and hospitalization data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).
Easy access is provided for students and faculty to PUMFS and Masterfiles' "0" frequency codebooks. All data files, documentation and reports that are part of the DLI collection are available through an Electronic File Transfer (EFT) server. Various secondary data providers repackage the select Statistics Canada data on their own research data repositories including Abacus, ODESI and CHASS.
