More time working means less sleep

This chart uses paired vertical bars to show that more time taking care of children reduces the amount of sleep and reduces the gender sleep gap. For an average day when no child care activities were recorded, women get 504 minutes of sleep (8 hours 24 minutes), compared to men at 490 minutes (8 hours 10 minutes). When men and women care for children from 1 to 90 minutes per day, they still have a statistically significant sleep difference: women get 491 minutes of sleep (8 hours 11 minutes) and men get 472 minutes (7 hours 52 minutes). However when men and women care for children for more than 90 minutes per day, there is no significant difference in the time spent sleeping. Men slept 465 minutes (7 hours 45 minutes) and women slept 471 minutes (7 hours 51 minutes).
