Chart 4.1 is a line chart showing the taxes paid by all industries, by finance and insurance industries and by non-financial industries from 2000 to 2010.

All industries combined paid $39.3 billion in taxes in 2000. Their taxes fell to a low of $35.2 billion in 2002 and rose to a peak of $55.4 billion in 2006. They were then relatively stable for the rest of the decade. In 2010, all industries combined paid $54.4 billion in taxes.

Finance and insurance industries paid $8.2 billion in taxes in 2000. Their taxes fell to a low of $6.7 billion in 2002 and rose to $12.9 billion in 2003. They fluctuated within a range of $9.9 billion to $12.4 billion for the rest of the decade, then peaked at $13.2 billion in 2010.

Non-financial industries paid $31.1 billion in taxes in 2000. Their taxes fell to a low of $26.9 billion in 2003, then rose to a peak of $43.0 billion in 2006. They were then relatively stable for the rest of the decade. Non-financial industries paid $41.2 billion in taxes in 2010.
