Chart 23.2 is a line chart showing payroll employment in manufacturing from 2001 to 2011. Payroll employment is the annual number of salaried and hourly employees on payroll.
From 2001 to 2009, manufacturing employment declined steadily from 2.0 million to 1.5 million jobs. It was then relatively stable until 2011.
