Chart 26.3 is a line chart showing new motor vehicle sales from 2000 to 2011, by type of vehicle.
Sales of passenger cars rose from 2000 to a high of 935,000 in 2002, then to a low of 820,000 in 2004. They recovered to 895,000 in 2008, then began to fall in 2009. By 2011, passenger car sales fell to 691,000.
Truck sales from 2000 to a high of 799,000 in 2002, then to a low of 756,000 in 2004. They recovered to 832,000 in 2007, then dropped in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, truck sales recovered strongly, surpassing passenger car sales. In 2011, 929,000 trucks were sold.
