Chart 28.3 is a bar chart showing the well-being of seniors by score on a 'first recall' task in 2008/2009. The task was to immediately recall a list of 15 common, unrelated words. Data are for the household population aged 65 and older without Alzheimer's disease or other dementia.

Results for seniors who reported a low score for loneliness were significantly different from results for the moderate/high score group (p was less than 0.01).

Data for seniors who reported a low score for the other three measures of well-being were significantly different from the moderate/high score group (p was less than 0.05).

In 2008/2009, seniors who scored low were more likely than other seniors to experience loneliness, suffer from recurrent falls, receive formal and informal home care or suffer from moderate or severe impairment in their activities.

All seniors were more likely to report experiencing loneliness than any other measure of well-being. Loneliness was reported by 13.9% of seniors who scored low and 10.4% of seniors who scored high.

All seniors were less likely to report suffering from a moderate or severe impairment in their activities. Such an impairment was reported by 6.3% of seniors who scored low and 3.1% of seniors who scored high.
