This line chart shows the ratio (share) of investment to business sector GDP. The share of tangible investment declines from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s but has no trend after that. The share of tangible investment moves up and down with the business cycle. In contrast, the share of intangible investment shows an upward trend. As a result, investment as a share of business sector GDP rises through time from 25.9% in 1976 to 33.1% in 2008.
