Figure 1 contains bar graphs for the total number of bioproducts under development by stage (research and development, proof of concept/product development, in production/on the market) in Canada for 2003 and 2006. The graphs show that Canadian firms have been relatively successful in commercializing their bioproducts. Between 2003 and 2006, the number of products in production or on the market increased 36.8% to 870.
