Note

Enterprises classified under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) to Management of Companies and Enterprises (NAICS 55) are excluded from the tabulations in this report. These enterprises are typically holding companies whose most significant assets are investments in affiliated enterprises. They have been excluded from the Corporations Returns Act publication dating back to the mid-eighties to avoid double counting of assets.

Prior to reference year 2004, the "European Union" included the following 15 countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

For reference years 2004 to 2006 inclusive, the "European Union" included the same 15 countries as listed above, plus the following 10 countries: Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Starting in reference year 2007, the "European Union" includes the same 25 countries listed in the previous two paragraphs, plus the following 2 countries: Bulgaria and Romania.

Statistical tables have been rounded to the nearest millionth dollar.

Unless otherwise stated, percentages presented in the text are based on the statistical tables prior to rounding.
