Editor's note

This Newsletter covers a wide array of services industries such as: the information and cultural industries; all business services; real estate services; rental and leasing services; traveller accommodations; food services; arts, entertainment and recreation services; various personal services; and other industries. In total the industry coverage encompasses 250 North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) industries, about half of all business establishments in Canada, one-third of the economy's employment, and one-quarter of its gross domestic product (GDP). Please note that some service industries such as the distributive trades, transportation, finance and insurance and public administration are not covered by this publication.

For most of the covered industries, the Newsletter offers statistics, industry reports and some analytical articles. Each issue also has a new Feature Article pertaining to one or more service industries or, occasionally, the service sector as a whole. As well, a statistical summary table based on one or all of the industries surveyed will also frequently be included.

In What's new in services data and analysis, you can see short summaries of Statistics Canada (STC) and other releases that were in some way related to the services sector. Also provided is a link to an Analytical Paper Series, also available for free. The Series currently comprises about 50 papers.

In The Service Industries Statistical Program, one can learn about the methodologies used for the business surveys. This link also leads to helpful information for survey respondents.
