This income family grouping is used in processing to determine amounts received from government programs such as Child Tax Benefit and GST credits.     • Description: Unique identifier for a family. Families are defined only within households. The proposed structure for this entity implies a strong assertion: family definitions are fixed at only one point in time for each reference year. This point in time is December 31 of each reference year.     rpmif26 -- Relationship to principal member of income family

    • Type and length: Character(1)
    • Description: Relationship of person to the principal member of the income family in the reference year. Children in an income family can be those living with parents or those living with guardians. The principal member is defined as the oldest person in the income family, with one exception. If the oldest person is a male living with a female spouse, then the female spouse is defined to be the principal member. Children are defined as those aged 18 or under at the end of the reference year.
