mjacg26 -- Person's major activity at end of refyear, group

    • Type and length: Character(1)
    • Description: Person's major activity at the end of reference year (grouping). This is a direct response to a question (not derived). Due to a technical problem in the collection of data for 1999, respondents aged 70 and older were not asked about their major activity that year. To compensate for this problem, an imputation program was developed during processing of 2000, using data for years 1998 and 2000. Nonetheless, as a result of this imputation, the number of respondents aged 70 and older with a value for major activity as "retired" is high in 1999 as compared to other years. Not available prior to reference year 1996. Codes 08 and 09 of variable MJACT26 are available starting with reference year 1999. Between reference years 1996 and 1998 inclusively, this question was about the whole year. It was not specific to the end of the year.
    • Population: Persons aged 16 or older for SLID (1993 onwards); Persons aged 15 and older for SCD (1976 - 1997)
    • Range and codes:
