1. The total population includes non-permanent residents.
2. 2006 Census geography boundaries have been applied to 2006, as well as 2001 and 1996 Census data presented in this table. This has resulted in some changes from the data presented in PCEIP 2007.
3. Total Aboriginal identity includes the Aboriginal groups (First Nations people, Métis and Inuit), multiple Aboriginal responses and Aboriginal responses not included elsewhere. "First Nations people" reflects those who self-identified as "North American Indian" on the census.
4. Nunavut was created on April 1, 1999. To assist historical comparisons, 2006 Census boundaries for Nunavut and Northwest Territories have been applied to 2006, as well as 2001 and 1996 Census data presented in this table.
