1. Full-time equivalent (FTE) educator is defined as the number of full-time educators on September 30th (or as close as possible thereafter) of the school year, plus the sum of part-time educators according to their percentage of a full-time employment allocation (determined by the province or territory).
2. Ontario data for 1999/2000 through 2001/2002 are new estimates that are more comparable with the methodology used beginning in 2002/2003. New estimates are not available for 1997/1998 and 1998/1999. These changes for Ontario also affect data at the Canada level.
3. Excludes publicly funded hospital and provincial schools, care, treatment and correctional facilities.
4. Includes educators in provincially funded schools (including "associated independent" and "historic" high schools) and excluding "independent" First Nations schools and postsecondary sites.
5. All educators in Lloydminster are included in Saskatchewan's counts and none of them are captured in the counts for Alberta.
6. The Alberta and Quebec data have been revised for 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 as of September 9, 2008. These changes also affect data at the Canada level.
7. Nunavut was created on April 1, 1999. Prior to that date, data for Nunavut were included with data for the Northwest Territories. This creates a break in series for the Northwest Territories in 1999/2000.
8. The period over which the percentage change is calculated has been revised to 1999/2000 to 2005/2006.
Notes:
These data are for public schools only and do not include private schools and federal schools. Due to the nature of ESESP data collection, these data are updated on an ongoing basis and are therefore subject to further revisions.
