1. The results obtained from students educated in the French system of their respective jurisdiction are reported as French. The results obtained from students educated in the English system of their respective jurisdiction are reported as English. The overall jurisdictional results represent the results obtained by students in both systems. In most jurisdictions, the results achieved by French immersion students who wrote in French are calculated as part of the English results. However, only in Manitoba, the results achieved by French immersion students are calculated as part of the French results. Caution is advised when comparing achievement results based on assessment instruments prepared in different languages, despite the extensive efforts to ensure equivalence for the sake of equity and fairness for all students. Every language has unique features that are not readily equivalent and render comparisons between languages inherently difficult. Notes: The Pan-Canadian Assessment Programme (PCAP) is a cyclical program of assessments of the achievement of 13-year-old students in reading, mathematics, and science, conducted by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). The first PCAP assessment took place in 2007 and had reading as its major domain of assessment. Mathematics and science were also assessed in 2007, however they received a minor focus. In future assessments, the emphasis on each subject will change. PCAP replaces CMEC's School Achievement Indicators Program (SAIP). The confidence interval represents the range within which the score for the population is likely to fall, with 95% probability. Due to small sample size, results for students responding in French in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, and Yukon have not been indicated in this table. They are however included in the calculations for the overall mean score in each jurisdiction. The Northwest Territories and Nunavut did not participate in PCAP 2007.
