1. The term "educators" includes teachers, school administrators and pedagogical support.
2. Excludes the territories; detailed data by age and sex are not available for the territories.
3. Newfoundland and Labrador, 1997/1998 to 2007/2008. Data include School for the Deaf and Whitbourne Youth Centre.
4. Data for Nova Scotia combine full-time and part-time educators.
5. Data exclude publicly funded hospital and provincial schools, care, treatment and correctional facilities. The increase in 2007/2008 is partially due to the inclusion of "long-term occasional teachers"; prior to 2007/2008, these were not counted.
6. Includes educators in provincially funded schools (including "associated independent" and "historic" high schools) and excluding "independent" First Nations schools and postsecondary sites.
7. All educators in Lloydminster are included in Saskatchewan's counts and none of them are captured in the counts for Alberta.
8. Data prior to 2004/2005 are not comparable with more recent data due to a change in methodology. Some of the total values for Alberta may not match the sum of the individual values, as an "unknown category" was removed from the table to ensure the confidentiality of responses.
Notes: Due to the nature of ESESP data collection, these data are updated on an ongoing basis and are therefore subject to further revisions. These data are for publicly funded schools only and do not include private schools and federal schools.
For a brief description of this indicator, including the methodology, please see the Handbook for the Pan-Canadian Education Indicators Program.
