1. This monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) series is based on the 2009 basket of goods and services. The eight major components of this basket are: food; shelter; household operations, furnishings and equipment; clothing and footwear; transportation; health and personal care; recreation, education and reading; and alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.
Notes: Separate CPIs are published for Canada and the 10 provinces.
To use the CPI to convert data in current dollars for a given year T to constant dollars of September of a selected year, multiply the current dollar value for year T by the ratio (CPI for September of the selected year) / (CPI for September of year T). For example, to convert a current dollar amount for 2011 to September 2007 constant dollars, multiply the amount for 2011 by the CPI for September 2007 and divide by the CPI for September 2011.
For more information on this CPI series, see the footnotes to CANSIM Table 326-0020. For more information on the CPI and converting current dollars to constant dollars, see Your Guide to the Consumer Price Index, Statistics Canada Catalogue Number 62-557-XIB.
