This is a vertical bar graph comparing percentages by age groups of males and females aged 12 or older who reported drinking 5 or more drinks on one occasion at least 12 times in the last year in 2008.

The Y axis is measured by percentages and increases by increments of 5 from 0 to 50.

On the X axis from left to right are all ages, and the following age groups: 12 to 17, 18 to 24, 25 to 34, 35 to 44, 45 to 54, 55 to 64 and 65 or older.
The percentages of respondents who reported drinking 5 or more drinks on one occasion at least 12 times in the last year are the following:

  • Total:  males 24.1%, females 9.6%,

  • Age group 12 to 17: males 7.2%, females 4.9%,

  • Age group 18 to 24: males 47.0%, females 29.3%,

  • Age group 25 to 34: males 34.4%, females 15.2%,

  • Age group 35 to 44: males 25.1%, females 8.4%,

  • Age group 45 to 54: males 25.1%, females 8.5%,

  • Age group 55 to 64: males 17.9%, females 4.7%,

  • Age group 65 or older: males 7.8%, females 1.3%.

Overall and in all age groups, the percentage of females who reported drinking 5 or more drinks on one occasion at least 12 times in the last year was significantly lower than the percentage of males at p<0.05.

In all age groups except 35 to 44 and 45 to 54, the percentage of males who reported drinking 5 or more drinks on one occasion at least 12 times in the last year was significantly different from the overall estimate for males at p<0.05.

In all age groups, the percentage of females who reported drinking 5 or more drinks on one occasion at least 12 times in the last year was significantly different from the overall estimate for females at p<0.05.
