Airflow obstruction consistent with COPD is characterized by a forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC) ratio of less than 70% of the predicted value based on age, sex, height and racial background. Total household population aged 35 to 79, except those meeting the exclusion criteria (see the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) Data User Guide: Cycle 2).
