Data on paid hours and financial data for residential care facilities may include amounts related to activities that are outside the scope of residential care, such as outpatient or hospital care. This phenomenon is not widespread outside of Quebec, but in this province, such situations are more likely. For this reason, financial data pertaining to non-residential care activities in Quebec were statistically removed. Nevertheless, caution should be exercised in comparison with data from other provinces.
"Sundry earnings" refers to all other earnings not attributable to basic accommodation such as earnings from sales or provision of services related to physical therapy, special duty nursing, hairdressing or barber services, extra laundry, dry cleaning, employee or guest meals, vending machines, telephone, day care and sale of crafts.
Principal characteristic of predominant group of residents and size of facility.
Due to administrative changes in Quebec in 2004/2005 (creation of "Centres de santé et de services sociaux"), data for this year are not comparable to data for previous years. Furthermore, because of improvements in the estimation methods for Quebec for 2005/2006, data for this year should not be compared with data from previous years.
To comply with the confidentiality requirements of the Statistics Act, some data for the Territories were combined. Data from homes for the aged with 50 beds or more were combined with those having 20 to 49 beds. Data from facilities with 20 beds or more, for persons with mental disorders, were included with facilities that had 1 to 19 beds. Data for the category "Other" were also included with facilities for persons with mental disorders, 1 to 19 beds.
Data for "Other" residential care facilities in Quebec likely include some non-residential care activity. Caution should be exercised in using this data.
"Income from other agencies" refers to amounts paid for accommodation by federal government departments or agencies, workers' compensation boards, Department of Veterans' Affairs and any grants or donations received by the facility.
