Note:
Rates are calculated on the basis of 1 million population. Population figures are based on July 1st estimates from Statistics Canada's Demography Division. Intimate partners include married, separated and divorced persons, common-law partners (current and former) and dating partners (current and former). A small number of homicides committed against spouses and dating partners under 15 years of age are excluded in the rate calculations. Data on homicides between dating partners are not available prior to 1991. The Homicide Survey was revised and expanded in 1991 to better meet changing information needs. Excludes homicides where the age or sex of the victim was unknown.
