This is a horizontal bar graph which illustrates the proportion, for each limitation, of children aged 5 to 14 whose parents reported, in 2006, difficulty obtaining special education.

The Y axis is comprised of seven limitations, arranged in order, beginning, at the top, with the limitation most frequently associated with a difficulty in obtaining special education.  On the Y axis from top to bottom, are the following limitations:

  • emotional, psychological, or behavioural conditions
  • learning disabilities
  • developmental disability or disorder
  • hearing difficulties including deafness
  • speech or language difficulties
  • vision difficulties including blindness
  • difficulty walking or moving around

The X axis is measured by percentages and increases by increments of ten from 0 up to 70.

The rate of children with an emotional, psychological or behavioural condition whose parent(s) reported difficulty obtaining special education is 59.4%.

The rate of children with a learning limitation whose parent(s) reported difficulty obtaining special education is 51.4%.

The rate of children with a developmental disability or disorder whose parent(s) reported difficulty obtaining special education is 49.9%

The rate of children with hearing difficulties including deafness whose parent(s) reported difficulty obtaining special education is 47.7E%.

The rate of children with a speech or language difficulties whose parent(s) reported difficulty obtaining special education is 48.0%.

The rate of children with vision difficulties including blindness whose parent(s) reported difficulty obtaining special education is 44.2%.

The rate of children with difficulty walking or moving around whose parent(s) reported difficulty obtaining special education is 44.3%.
