This stacked vertical bar chart illustrates the percentage of Inuit children under six years old who are living with their grandparents, by family type and area of residence, 2006.

The X axis lists the three groups of children examined, which include:

  • Total Inuit children under six years old

  • Inuit children under six years old living in Inuit Nunaat

  • Inuit children under six years old living outside Inuit Nunaat.

Each group is composed of three stacked vertical bars.

The lowest bar represents the percentage of children living in two-parent families with grandparents.
The middle bar represents the percentage of children living in lone-parent families with grandparents.
The top bar represents the percentage of children living with grandparents only.

The entire stack of three bars represents the percentage of children living with grandparents

The Y axis is measured in percentages and increases by increments of two from 0 to 20.

In terms of total Inuit children under six years old, 5% were living in two-parent families with grandparents
11% were living in lone-parent families with grandparents
1% were living with grandparents only
The total of all Inuit children under six years old living with grandparents was 17%.

In terms of Inuit children under six years old living in Inuit Nunaat, 5% were living in two-parent families with grandparents
13% were living in lone-parent families with grandparents
1% were living with grandparents only
The total of Inuit children under six years old in Inuit Nunaat who were living with grandparents was 19%

In terms of Inuit children under six years old living outside Inuit Nunaat, 1% were living in two-parent families with grandparents
4% were living in lone-parent families with grandparents
