This chart illustrates the superimposed populations pyramids for the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations living in Montréal, in 2006.

The population pyramids show the percentage distribution of each of the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations by sex and five year age groups, starting at the bottom with the 0 to 4 age groups and ending at the top with the 75+ age agroup. Men are shown on the left and women on the right.

The Aboriginal population pyramid consists of back-to-back bar graphs, with the percentage of the population plotted on the X-axis and the age on the Y-axis, the left side of the pyramid shows the bars for Aborignal men and the right side shows the bars for Aboriginal women.

The non-Aboriginal population pyramid consists of back-to-back line graphs, with the percentage of the population plotted on the X-axis and the age on the Y-axis,  the left side of the pyramid shows the line graph for non-Aborignal men and the right side shows the line graph for non Aboriginal women.

The Aboriginal population living in Montréal in 2006 was slightly younger than the non-Aboriginal population. The superimposed pyramids show that at the younger age groups the bars for the Aboriginal population extend outside the line graphs for the non-Aboriginal population, and for the older age groups the bars are inside the line graphs.
