This vertical bar chart illustrates the percentage of the Métis population whose mother tongue is English, French or an Aboriginal language, by age group, 2006.

The X axis lists six age groups, which include:

6 to 14
15 to 24
25 to 44
45 to 64
65 and over

Each age group is composed of three vertical bars. 

The first bar represents the percentage of Métis whose mother tongue is English.
The second bar represents the percentage of Métis whose mother tongue is French.
The third bar represents the percentage of Métis whose mother tongue is an Aboriginal language.

The Y axis is measured in percentages and increases by increments of ten from 0 to 100.

91% of Métis under 6 years of age have an English mother tongue.
9% of Métis under 6 years of age have a French mother tongue.
1% of Métis under 6 years of age have an Aboriginal language as their mother tongue.

90% of Métis aged 6 to 14 have an English mother tongue.
9% of Métis aged 6 to 14 have a French mother tongue.
1% of Métis aged 6 to 14 have an Aboriginal language as their mother tongue.

Note(s): Mother tongue is the language first learned in childhood and still understood. Percentages for each age group may add up to more than 100% since an individual may have more than one mother tongue.
