    When comparing the data on tillage practices to previous censuses, calculating each practice as a percentage of "Total land prepared for seeding" is recommended, since the "Total land prepared for seeding" varies over time.

    The terms "conventional tillage" and "conservation tillage" were used on the 1991 questionnaire, but have been dropped since 1996. However, the descriptions of these two tillage practices were identical on all questionnaires. Therefore, the data are comparable.
