World Statistics Day

Celebrating the many achievements of official statistics

As countries around the world join to celebrate the very first World Statistics Day on October 20, 2010, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Canadians for their steadfast support and participation in Statistics Canada surveys. I also wish to thank all visitors to the Statistics Canada website for their continued interest and trust in our expertise and the information we publish.

Statistics Canada data informs businesses, associations, educators, researchers, and all levels of government at the national and international levels. The participation of Canadians in surveys helps Statistics Canada to deliver a more accurate picture of Canada. That knowledge is used to guide decisions about various aspects of our communities as well as to meet the needs of individuals and businesses.

On World Statistics Day, I wish to recognize the critical role you play in supporting official statistics in Canada and look forward to your continued collaboration.

Wayne R. Smith
Chief Statistician of Canada
