Consultative engagement objectives

Insights on Canadian Society (ICS) is Statistics Canada’s flagship social publication, which brings together a wide range of data sources to provide information on various aspects of Canadian society, including labour, income, education, social, and demographic issues that affect the lives of Canadians.

In the interest of modernising the dissemination of social insights, Statistics Canada is expanding ICS to include a Special Edition, which will offer diverse products, like shorter analytical articles, so that readers can interactively examine different facets of our stories under a broad theme. As part of this initiative, virtual group discussions will be held to seek feedback on the Special Edition’s utility and accessibility, to better understand its relevancy and value to readers.

Results

The consultative engagement initiative offered valuable insights into the usefulness of the first special edition issue of Insights on Canadian Society. Based on feedback, several improvements were incorporated into the second issue, including more prominently highlighting key findings on both the landing page and article pages, improving access to the products, and ensuring that themes and product topics remain timely and relevant for a broad audience. Future enhancements will focus on continuing to tailor content for a general audience by refining tone and language.

Their valuable feedback will continue to guide the development of future issues of Canadian Perspective, helping to ensure that the agency provides Canadians with timely, relevant and reliable information on which to base informed decisions.
