OTTAWA — Thanks to the willing participation of Canadian farm operators in the 2016 Census of Agriculture, Statistics Canada will be able to publish high-quality data, including, for the first time, information on technology use, direct marketing practices, succession planning, farm practices and land features, along with renewable energy producing systems.

This rich data source will provide a portrait of the changes in the Canadian Agriculture industry and serve as an invaluable source for evidence based decision making by a broad range of users.

The first release of results from the 2016 Census of Agriculture are planned for May 10, 2017. The overall quality of the data is enhanced‎, as 55% of responses from farm operators was received through an electronic questionnaire, five times the rate recorded during the 2011 Census. Overall collection was completed three months earlier than in 2011.

Statistics Canada is grateful for the exceptional participation and support of farm operators towards a successful 2016 Census of Agriculture.
