The 2021 Census questions are available in 25 languages, in addition to English and French. Respondents can obtain the census questions in any of these languages by visiting the census website. However, the census questionnaire will only be printed in English and French and must be completed in either English or French.

People who do not understand English or French can call the Census Help Line at 1-855-340-2021 and communicate their phone number and the language in which they need assistance. For TTY (a telecommunications device for deaf persons), please call 1-833-830-3109.

Alternatively, if you wish to request the questions in another language, please provide the required information in the 'Comments' box. Please specify if you also require a secure access code or a paper questionnaire.

You can mail your completed questionnaire to Statistics Canada using the return envelope provided. Place it in the return envelope with the upper front half of the questionnaire facing the window on the envelope. If you have lost the return envelope, please note that any envelope can be used to return your c ensus questionnaire. The return address is different depending on the questionnaire you received. Please mail the questionnaire to the address corresponding to the questionnaire type you have. You can locate the questionnaire type on the top right- hand side of your questionnaire. Below is a list of questionnaire types and their associated return addresses.

A large-print version of the questionnaire is produced for the most common short- and long-form questionnaires (2A, 2A-L). Large-print questionnaires are printed on legal-sized paper in a larger font size, with space to enumerate two individuals.

The large-print questionnaire is available in French or English.

For information purposes only, the census questions and reasons why we ask the questions are available in braille, audio and video formats.

The census questionnaire is not available in sign language. However, a presentation of the census questions and the reasons why they are asked is available in both American Sign Language and Quebec Sign Language, on the census website.

Deaf people can call the Census Help Line TTY service at 1-833-830-3109 (toll free) to request a copy of the video or to obtain assistance over the phone to complete the questionnaire.

Please note that the census questions were translated into sign language and into several other languages for reference purposes only. The census questionnaire must be completed online or on paper, in French or in English.

To request braille, audio, video and sign language interpretation material, please provide the required information in the 'Comments' box.

If you have your secure access code, you can complete your census questionnaire online on the census website. If someone else is currently at home, that person can include you in the household's questionnaire—in which case no action is required from you.

If you live alone or do not have a secure access code, and are travelling within Canada or the USA, you can call the Census Help Line at 1-855-340-2021 to request one. For TTY (a telecommunications device for deaf persons), please call 1-833-830-3109.

If you are travelling overseas, you may also be able to complete your census questionnaire upon your return home depending on your return date.

If you moved on or before Census Day (May 11, 2021), you must complete the census questionnaire at your current address.

If you moved after Census Day (May 11, 2021), you must complete the census questionnaire for your previous address.

If you received a census letter at both your cottage and your residence, you should complete a questionnaire for each location.

The questionnaire for the dwelling where you reside most of the time must be completed, in full, and submitted.

The questionnaire for your secondary residence must be partially completed and submitted to stop further follow-up activities at that address.

If the person passed away before May 11, 2021, they should be excluded from the questionnaire for the household.

If the deceased who passed away before May 11, 2021 lived alone, a partially-completed questionnaire must be submitted to notify Statistics Canada that the dwelling is unoccupied and to stop further follow-up activities.

If the person passed away on or after May 11, 2021, the census questionnaire for the household should be completed as usual, including the deceased person. Please complete the census questionnaire to the best of your knowledge.

If the person passed away on or after May 11, 2021, and lived alone, please complete the census questionnaire to the best of your knowledge.

If you require additional assistance regarding the inclusion of a deceased person in the census questionnaire, please provide the required information in the ‘Comments’ box.

If the dwelling is unoccupied or non-existing, a questionnaire still needs to be completed and submitted to notify Statistics Canada of the status of the dwelling and to stop further follow-up activities.

You need to answer a few simple questions to let us know the status of the dwelling. Visit the census website and log in using the secure access code. Enter “0” (zero) as the number of persons living at this address and, when prompted, choose the appropriate description of the address where the census questionnaire or letter was delivered.

If you can’t complete the questionnaire for this address and wish to notify us, please provide the required information in the ‘Comments’ box.

If the dwelling is vacant, a questionnaire still needs to be completed and submitted to notify Statistics Canada of the status of the dwelling and to stop further follow-up activities.

You need to answer a few simple questions to let us know the status of the dwelling. Visit the census website and log in using the secure access code. A census invitation letter will be sent to every household by mail or delivered by an enumerator.

The invitation letter asks households to complete their census questionnaire online and provides instructions on how to do so. The letter contains a 16-digit secure access code (SAC) found on the inside of the letter flap that allows respondents to complete the questionnaire online.

Reminders are also sent in the weeks following the initial invitation mail-out.

If you receive an in-person visit, every census employee/enumerator has a Statistics Canada identification card with their name, their employment number and photo. The identification should be visible at all times.

If you are contacted by phone, "GOCGDC" should be displayed on your caller ID. The acronym stands for "Government of Canada – Gouvernement du Canada".

As part of the 2021 Census, Statistics Canada is sending text reminders to households that have not yet completed their census questionnaire.

The number "236732" is our text message short code, which is used by Statistics Canada to reach respondents. Text messages coming from "236732" are legitimate.

As part of the 2021 Census of Population, Statistics Canada is also sending email reminders to households that have not yet completed their census questionnaire and for which the census does not have a telephone number to reach them. The email reminders are sent from the following address: statcan.dnr-nrp.statcan@canada.ca.

To confirm the identity of a census employee/enumerator, please provide the required information in the 'Comments' box.
