Gender, diversity and inclusion statistics catalogue

The searchable catalogue is a collection of Statistics Canada data, analytical products and publications that are related to gender, diversity and inclusion. You can search by entering a phrase or keyword in the search bar or by selecting filters from the three drop-down menus below the search bar. The total number of results and pages will be displayed. You can sort the results chronologically or alphabetically by using the "Sort by" drop-down. Use the "Results per page" drop-down to select how many results you would like presented per page.

How to use the filters and the search bar?

You can initiate a search by entering a phrase or keyword in the search bar and/or selecting filters from the three drop-downs ("Population identity groups", "Social and economic characteristics and "Type of product").
Filters can be used together or in any combination. Each time you select a filter or start to type in the search bar, the results on the page are updated automatically.
To start a new search, click on the "Clear filters" button below the filters or deselect each filter and clear the search bar.
The question mark icons beside the "Population identity groups" and "Social and economic characteristics" filters provide definitions and explanations of the content found within these groups to help guide your selections.

Selecting more than one population group will return products related to any of the selected groups.
Selecting more than one social and economic characteristic will return products related to any of the selected characteristics.

How the search bar works?

This search looks for results that have your query term in the title, population identity groups, social and economic characteristics, and types of products.
- For example, when searching the term 'Immigrants', all results with the word 'Immigrants' in the title or population identity group will appear.
If more than one keyword is entered into the search bar, it searches for each word within all the categories.
The text within an article or publication are not searched. For full text searching of articles, use the Statistics Canada website Search.

Filter results

Population identity groups

2SLGBTQI+ populations: Individuals who are Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer, or use other terms related to gender or sexual diversity.
Immigrants and non-permanent residents: This group includes individuals who are immigrants or non-permanent residents. An immigrant refers to a person who is, or who has ever been a permanent resident (landed immigrant). Such a person has been granted the right to live in Canada permanently by immigration authorities, including Canadian citizens by naturalization. A non-permanent resident refers to a person from another country with a usual place of residence in Canada and who has a work or study permit or who has claimed refugee status (asylum claimant) and their family members living with them.
Indigenous peoples: Indigenous Peoples in Canada are individuals who identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit—the three groups recognized under the Constitution Act, 1982. They hold Indigenous ¹ and treaty rights affirmed by this Act. Each group has its own distinct histories, languages, cultural practices, and spiritual beliefs, making Indigenous Peoples politically, culturally, legally, and historically unique from other populations in Canada.; ¹ Referred as Aboriginal within the Act
Official language minority population: English-speaking people living in Quebec and French-speaking people living in the other provinces and the territories.
Persons with disabilities: Individuals with physical, sensory, intellectual, cognitive, or mental health impairments who may experience limitations in daily activities or participation in social, educational, employment, or community life. This group may encounter environmental, social, or systemic barriers that affect accessibility and inclusion, and may rely on various supports and services, social, professional, or policy-related, to participate fully and equitably in society.
Population by gender or sex at birth: Individuals' sex at birth and gender.
Racialized groups: This group includes individuals who are a visible minority, as defined by the Employment Equity Act. The Employment Equity Act defines visible minorities as "persons, other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non Caucasian in race or non white in colour." The visible minority population consists mainly of the following groups: South Asian, Chinese, Black, Filipino, Arab, Latin American, Southeast Asian, West Asian, Korean and Japanese. Statistics Canada also refers to visible minority groups as racialized groups.
Veterans and military personnel: Individuals currently serving or who have previously served in the armed forces, including members of the Regular and Reserve Forces, Veterans, and their families who are connected to military service.

Social and economic characteristics

Age: Refers to life-course stage categories that distinguish populations by age, from childhood through older adulthood.
Caregiving and care receiving: Encompasses the provision or receipt of care across the lifespan, including childcare, elder care, unpaid care work, and roles within the broader care economy.
Discrimination and inclusion: Relates to experiences of equitable treatment or unfair disadvantage, including systemic or interpersonal discrimination, social exclusion, and efforts to promote inclusion.
Education: Covers levels of formal and informal learning, literacy, skills development, and specialized training across the education system and adult learning.
Employment and Labour: Describes engagement in the labour market, including employment status, job stability, full-time, part-time, and non-standard or gig work, as well as transitions into or out of work, including retirement.
Family and household types: Represents household and family structures, including marital status, caregiving roles, and living arrangements such as one-parent, or multigenerational households.
Geography: Identifies populations by location and type of community, from local and municipal areas to rural, urban, and regional geographic classifications.
Health and Disability: Encompasses overall health status and access to health and disability-related services, including physical, mental, and sexual/reproductive health, wellbeing, and support for people with disabilities.
Housing: Covers housing conditions and experiences, including affordability, tenure, costs, dwelling characteristics, types of housing, availability, satisfaction, and issues such as housing need or homelessness.
Income and socioeconomic status: Captures financial resources and socioeconomic standing, including income levels, poverty, income distribution, and disparities such as wage gaps.
Language: Relates to individuals' primary, known, spoken or used languages, including Canada's official languages, Indigenous languages, sign languages and other non-official languages.
Quality of Employment: Refers to the conditions and experiences of work, including workplace safety, workload, job satisfaction, organizational climate, and balance between work and personal life.
Religion and spirituality: Includes religious affiliation, religious denomination, group, body, or other religiously defined community or system of belief as well as various components of religiosity, such as religious practice and the importance of religion.
Safety and Justice: Concerns experiences and systems related to safety, law enforcement, justice, crime, victimization, and correctional or policing services.
Socioeconomic and Political Participation: Examines engagement in community, civic, social, or political life, including volunteering, time allocation, and participation in social or support networks.
Wealth: Refers to accumulated financial and material resources, including owned assets, savings, and outstanding debts.
