Canadian Health and COVID-19 Survey

Today, Statistics Canada is releasing data from the Canadian Health and COVID-19 Survey; a crowdsourcing initiative conducted in the provinces of Prince Edward Island and Ontario in 2023, based on the 2022 Canadian COVID-19 Antibody and Health Survey.

Note to readers

The Canadian Health and COVID-19 Survey (CHCS) was a crowdsource initiative conducted by Statistics Canada in Prince Edward Island (PEI) and Ontario. The objective of the CHCS was to collect information on the presence of chronic symptoms, chronic conditions, and access to health care among study participants in the two provinces, including within subpopulations of particular interest (e.g., health care workers). The initiative was funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Advertisement and recruitment of participants for the initiative were managed by the provincial government of PEI and the Ontario Ministry of Health.

The CHCS used the electronic questionnaire content of the 2022 Canadian COVID-19 Antibody and Health Survey Cycle 2 (CCAHS-2), to provide additional information about the impacts of COVID-19. More information on the CCAHS-2 can be accessed here. Unlike the CCAHS-2, which was a traditional survey that used a probabilistic sample design, the CHCS crowdsource initiative did not include random selection of participants. For representative statistics, it is therefore recommended that data users consult the CCAHS-2. In addition, a follow-up to the CCAHS-2 was conducted in 2023 with a focus on long-term symptoms following COVID-19.

The reference period for this initiative was February 14 to June 8, 2023, for PEI, and July 4 to September 8, 2023, for Ontario.
