In January, the business closure rate contracted 0.2 percentage points to 4.6%, a rate corresponding to the 2015-to-2019 historical average, following an increase of 0.3 percentage points in December 2023. The business opening rate edged down 0.1 percentage points to 4.6% in January 2024 after holding steady at 4.7% from August to December 2023. In January 2024, the business opening rate was slightly below its historical average of 4.7%.
