Note to readers

This release includes preliminary postcensal population estimates for health regions and peer groups by age and gender as of July 1, 2023. Updated estimates for previous years are also available. See the Tables tab for more information.

Health regions represent administrative areas for health service delivery within a province or territory. Health regions have been grouped into "peer groups" to allow for comparisons of health regions with similar demographic and socioeconomic characteristics.

The demographic dependency ratio represents the combined population aged from 0 to 14 years and the population aged 65 years and older to the population aged from 15 to 64 years.
