Total sales of refined petroleum products to end-users stood at 89.2 million cubic metres in 2023, an increase of 1.1% compared with sales in 2022.
Sales by fuel type
Sales of motor gasoline increased 2.0% to 43.0 million cubic metres in 2023, while sales of diesel fuel oil decreased 2.7% to 29.5 million cubic metres. Sales of motor gasoline (48.3%) and diesel fuel oil (33.1%) made up most sales of refined petroleum products in 2023.
Sales of aviation turbo fuel totalled 8.4 million cubic metres in 2023, up 14.2% from one year earlier. Sales of light fuel oil (heating oil) decreased by 8.9% to 1.4 million cubic metres in 2023.
Sales to end-users
In 2023, refineries sold 15.0 million cubic metres of motor gasoline to gasoline stations, up 3.3% compared with the previous year. Sales of diesel fuel oil to gasoline stations went down 6.5% to 2.5 million cubic metres in 2023.
Sales of all fuels to the road transportation industry increased slightly to 6.6 million cubic metres in 2023, up 1.0% from 2022.
Sales of all fuels to the Canadian air transportation industry increased 17.4% from 2022 to reach 6.9 million cubic metres in 2023.
