Virtual workshop: Analysis 101: Steps of the analytical process

How do you extract meaning from numbers? How do you turn data into information that supports decision making? And how do you communicate that information in a way that helps Canadians better understand themselves?

Analysis 101 is a course designed for junior analysts and those with limited experience working with data. The objective is to introduce beginners to the fundamental steps of the analytical process and their practical applications, without delving into specific analytical techniques or tools.

The course guides participants through the three key stages of the analytical process:

  1. Planning your analysis explores how to define a relevant analytical question and develop a structured analysis plan.
  2. Performing your analysis covers best practices for organizing, examining and interpreting your data. Instructors will share high-level analytical examples and practical tips for conducting analysis.
  3. Sharing your findings focuses on best practices for reviewing your work and presenting your findings to an audience.

The course features a combination of live presentations, interactive activities and discussions. Participants will be given activities to complete between each session that will be integrated into the following day’s discussion. Instructors will also present a case study that demonstrates how the analytical process was applied to develop a Statistics Canada analytical product.
