In April, 195,659 new motor vehicles were sold in Canada, increasing 11.3% from one year earlier. Gains were widespread, with all provinces observing a higher number of units sold. April 2025 represented the month with the highest sales on record in dollar terms, at nearly $10.8 billion.
There were 14,725 new zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs) sold in April, declining 28.5% from the same period in 2024. ZEVs represented 7.5% of total new motor vehicles sold in April 2025.
Note to readers
The term "zero-emission vehicle" (ZEV) refers to any motor vehicle that has the potential to produce no tailpipe emissions. The ZEV category includes battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
