Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for May. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales declined 1.3% in May. The largest decreases were in the petroleum and coal product subsector, the transportation equipment subsector and the food product subsector.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 69.7%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months was 93.5%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the May reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than the regular monthly release.
Note to readers
The percentage change is calculated using seasonally adjusted data in current dollars.
This advance estimate is a special product published to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of May, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on July 15, 2025.
