Oilseed crushing and major grain deliveries statistics, July 2025

Oilseed crushing statistics

Oilseed processors crushed 968.5 thousand tonnes of canola in July, up 13.1% from June and down 3.6% from July 2024. Oil production reached 408.9 thousand tonnes in July 2025, while meal production was 571.0 thousand tonnes.

Deliveries of major grains

Deliveries of major grains across Canada fell by 19.0% in July from the same month the previous year, totalling 4.6 million tonnes. Canola (-41.1% to 1.3 million tonnes), total wheat (-5.4% to 2.8 million tonnes) and barley (-6.9% to 239.8 thousand tonnes) contributed to this decline. Saskatchewan accounted for nearly half (46.8%) of all deliveries, while Alberta accounted for 18.6% and Manitoba accounted for 16.9%.

Major grains include wheat (excluding durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola.

Focus on Canada and the United States

Producer deliveries capture grain that is destined for a primary elevator, feed mill, crushing plant or flour mill. This includes grain elevators that hold grain before it is exported, as well as shipments to US markets that are not licensed by the Canadian Grain Commission.

The imposition of tariffs by the United States may have an impact on producer deliveries of major grains in the coming months. In 2024, Canada exported a total of 4.5 million tonnes of wheat (excluding durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola to the United States. Statistics Canada will continue to monitor developments on tariffs and the impact on producer deliveries.
