Oilseed crushing statistics
Oilseed processors crushed 867.9 thousand tonnes of canola in August, down 10.4% from July and down 2.0% from August 2024. Oil production reached 367.3 thousand tonnes in August 2025, while meal production was 514.9 thousand tonnes.
Deliveries of major grains
Deliveries of major grains across Canada fell by 17.1% in August from the same month the previous year, totalling 3.6 million tonnes. Canola (-52.9% to 621.6 thousand tonnes), total wheat (-2.7% to 2.3 million tonnes) and flaxseed (-21.0% to 12.0 thousand tonnes) contributed to this decline. Saskatchewan accounted for more than one-third (36.6%) of all deliveries, while Alberta accounted for 20.4% and Manitoba accounted for 22.2%.
Major grains include wheat (excluding durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola.
Focus on Canada and the United States
Producer deliveries capture grain that is destined for a primary elevator, feed mill, crushing plant or flour mill. This includes grain elevators that hold grain before it is exported, as well as shipments to US markets that are not licensed by the Canadian Grain Commission.
The imposition of tariffs by the United States may have an impact on producer deliveries of major grains in the coming months. In 2024, Canada exported a total of 4.5 million tonnes of wheat (excluding durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola to the United States. Statistics Canada will continue to monitor developments on tariffs and the impact on producer deliveries.
