Does financial literacy affect the timing of contributions to and withdrawals from registered retirement savings plans?

It’s that time of the year again—income tax season! And every year, many taxpayers have the same questions: Should I contribute to a registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) to save for retirement? Is it really worth it to put my savings into an RRSP, or should I invest my money elsewhere?

But one question we don’t hear as often is about withdrawing early from an RRSP, given that the whole purpose of this plan is to save money.

Who seems to have a better understanding of the tax implications of withdrawing money from an RRSP before retirement?
