On October 20, the United Nations observes the fourth World Statistics Day, a day to celebrate the power of statistics in fostering trust and confidence among citizens, policymakers and institutions. This year’s theme is “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone.”
World Statistics Day is observed every five years, which is the same amount of time between censuses in some countries, including Canada.
In 2021, The Census of Population counted 36,991,981 people living in Canada, and the Census of Agriculture counted 189,874 farms. Months from now, in the spring of 2026, both censuses will be counting again, and we will need to hear from you to help paint a statistical portrait of Canada.
A current snapshot of the country
You might also be the owner of a business or represent an organization, such as a non-profit. If you’ve been chosen to participate in the Labour Force Survey, the Retail Trade Survey or other key surveys, we need to hear from you, too. Your responses help us stay in touch with what’s happening across the country, especially when it comes to key indicators, such as the employment rate, inflation rate, gross domestic product, trade and retail sales.
Every survey response counts
Visit our Trust Centre and Information for Survey Participants portals for more information on how we keep your personal information secure, and how we conduct our 350-plus surveys and statistical programs.
When you fill out your census or survey questionnaire, you’re helping contribute to the quality of the data produced to better inform policy development and research—and we thank you for it!
