Household net worth rises in third quarter on equity market momentum
Net worth of Canadian households increased by almost a half-trillion dollars (+$460.5 billion; +2.6%) to reach $18,394.1 billion in the third quarter of 2025. This was the eighth consecutive quarterly increase and the largest increase since the first quarter of 2024. Overall, households' financial assets jumped 4.8% (+$532.4 billion) in the third quarter of 2025 as equity markets continued to rally. On the other hand, the value of non-financial assets edged down (-0.3%), pulled lower by a $53.4 billion decline (-0.6%) in residential real estate.

Human trafficking incidents triple over a decade
From 2014 to 2024, just over 5,000 human trafficking incidents were reported by police services in Canada. There were about three times as many human trafficking incidents in 2024 compared with 2014, with numbers increasing in each year since 2014, except for 2018. From 2014 to 2024, the vast majority (93%) of victims identified by police were women and girls.
Jobs at multinational enterprises in Canada edge down in 2024
The number of jobs at foreign and Canadian multinational enterprises (MNEs) operating in Canada edged down 0.1% from a year earlier to 5.20 million in 2024. Within Canada, the total number of jobs at Canadian MNEs declined 0.4% to 2.46 million in 2024. Meanwhile, employment at foreign MNEs in Canada grew by 0.2% to 2.74 million. In 2024, 1.71 million jobs in Canada were at US multinationals, representing 11.9% of corporate sector jobs.

The median entry wage of new immigrants in 2023
From 2022 to 2023, the median entry wage of immigrants declined by 10.6% to $39,800, the largest decline since 1991. In comparison, the overall real median wage of Canadians increased by 1.1% to $47,650 in 2023. However, the median entry wage of immigrants admitted one year earlier rose by 45.3% over the course of a decade, increasing from $27,400 in 2014 to $39,800 in 2023.
Energy taxes account for over three-quarters of environmental tax revenue in 2022
Total environmental taxes generated in Canada rose 7.8% year over year to $33.3 billion in 2022. The increase in total environmental taxes was attributable to higher energy taxes (+6.6%), which was driven by a growth in the carbon tax (+21.6%) from 2021 to 2022. Energy taxes accounted for over three-quarters (77.2% in 2022) of total environmental taxes for the third consecutive year.
Just over half of adult children in their 50s lived within 20 kilometres of their parents
For approximately half of adult children in their 50s in the years leading up to the pandemic (2016 to 2019), a trip home for the holidays to visit parents most likely meant a short 20-kilometre or less trip away. Approximately one in seven adult children lived within 100 to 499 kilometres of their parents in the years leading up to the pandemic, while one in nine faced a journey of 500 kilometres or more to be home for the holidays.
