2026 Census: It’s not too late to participate!

May 27, 2026, 11:00 a.m. (EDT)

First off, a heartfelt thank you to all who have completed their census questionnaires, and a special shoutout to the one in four households responding to the long form this census year.

While Census Day has now passed, it’s not too late to complete your census questionnaire.

For those who have not yet responded or who we may have missed in our initial mail-out, no worries. Follow-up reminders will be sent, and Statistics Canada enumerators may politely come knocking on your door to encourage your participation.

Why do we follow up to ensure every census questionnaire is completed, you may ask?

Put simply, census data are essential for ensuring meaningful decisions—like where to build schools, retirement residences and roads, plan health services, or support local programs—are based on real community needs. Your participation makes a difference for you, your neighbourhood and all of Canada.

For more information on how census data benefit communities, see How are census data used?

Since 1918, Statistics Canada has had a legal obligation to accurately count every person in Canada, while strictly protecting the confidentiality of the information collected. Under the Statistics Act of 1971, the census has been conducted every five years. In turn, it is the legal obligation of every household in Canada to complete the census.

Rest assured, our commitment to counting every person is matched by our commitment to protecting your personal data.

Count yourself into Canada’s statistical portrait by completing your 2026 Census questionnaire today!
