Two centuries ago, an estimated 30 to 60 million buffalo roamed the Prairies and woodland. Today, there are approximately 2,200 Plains buffalo and 10,000 wood buffalo roaming free or in protected areas nationally, while Canadian farmers reported 149,539 buffalo roaming on their farms in 2021.

Win (for) diesel: Moving the economy cheaper in 2023

Statistics Canada tracks the monthly average self-serve pump prices of gasoline, diesel and household heating fuel in 18 major population centres. Depending on the area, diesel prices were anywhere from 34 to 112 cents per litre cheaper in May 2023 compared with the highs observed throughout 2022.
