Marital breakdown and subsequent depression

In Canada, an estimated 4 marriages in 10 will end before the couple celebrate their 30th wedding  anniversary. The most recent data available from the Divorce Registry show that nearly 71,000 married couples divorced in 2003; thousands more separated.

Trends in weight change among Canadian adults

Consistent with trends in other countries, the prevalence of obesity has been rising in Canada.  From 1978/1979 to 2004, the percentage of Canadian adults who were obese rose from 14% to 23%.  The increasing prevalence of obesity is a major public health concern, as excess weight has been associated with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, psychosocial difficulties, osteoarthritis, and premature mortality.
