Note 1 Violations causing death include first degree murder, second degree murder, manslaughter, infanticide, criminal negligence causing death, and other related violations causing death. Return to note 1 referrer Note 2 Attempted murder includes conspiracy to commit murder. Return to note 2 referrer Note 3 Level 1 sexual assault is the category of least physical injury to the victim; level 2 includes sexual assault with a weapon, threats to use a weapon, or causing bodily harm; and level 3 includes aggravated sexual assault which wounds, maims, disfigures, or endangers the life of the victim. Return to note 3 referrer Note 4 Other sexual offences include other sexual crimes such as non-consensual distribution of intimate images, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, luring a child via a computer, and voyeurism. Return to note 4 referrer Note 5 Level 2 assault is defined as assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm and level 3 assault is defined as assault that wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers the life of the victim. Victims refer to those aged 15 to 89. Victims aged 90 years and older are excluded from analyses due to possible instances of miscoding of unknown age within this age category. Excludes victims where the sex or the age was unknown or where the accused-victim relationship was unknown. Percentages may not total 100% due to rounding.
